Gangsta rap is a subgenre of hip hop, which developed during the late 1980s. With the popularity of Dr. Dre's The Chronic in 1992, gangsta rap became the most commercially lucrative subgenre of hip-hop.
Gangsta rappers are often accused of homophobia, violence, profanity, promiscuity, misogyny, racism, and materialism beacause of the lyrics they are using in order to describe the reality of inner-city life.
